Football Star Arrested on Suspicion of Orchestrating Murder

Brazilian football player Kel Baiano has been arrested by police in Patos, Brazil, on suspicion of ordering a murder. Baiano was apprehended after evading arrest when a warrant was issued. He is currently in custody at a detention centre in the city.

Officials have not disclosed details about the case to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation. Additionally, Baiano may face animal cruelty charges as police found three dogs at his residence that had allegedly been left without food and water for three days. The dogs have been taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

Baiano is a footballer signed to a team in Rio Grande do Norte State and most recently played for Esporte de Patos, a national fourth-division team, Nacional de Patos. He began his football career 2016 at Fluminense de Feira and played for Real Noroeste when the alleged crime occurred in 2021.

Baiano has succeeded in several Brazilian clubs throughout his career, including winning the Campeonato Baiano Second Division in 2017 and 2019 with Jequié and Atlanta, respectively. He has also played for the Ferroviário team, which won the Copa Fares Lopes in 2018.

Esporte de Patos CFO Paulo Vieira stated that the club is internally discussing the situation to issue a statement. The arrest has surprised the club, and they are awaiting more information on the matter.
